MegaReload.se — first file-based storage using encryption on the client side

Tomorrow will probably be a significant day in the history of copyright. Kim Dotcom, founder of the notorious MegaUpload, will deservedly bask in the glory as the Creator of the first innovative file-based storage using encryption on the client side... But.

We are happy for him but also understand that this glory will be somewhat bitter, because "these ubiquitous Russian" was still ahead of him with your wit :)

Habracha, let me introduce you to MegaReload.se — a service devised by us before Kim began to talk about his new mega (for a fact, the date of registration of the domain megareload.se — 2012-06-23).

Remarkable moment that initially we did not plan for anyone to overtake. Moreover, the service was conceived exclusively as an adequate response kopirajtera lobby on their oppression. But a subsequent activity first, Kim surprised us (it turns out we got the vector of development), then a little alarmed (we thought he would do the same), and then added the excitement (we understand that he does not do that and was wondering what happens in the end).

The distinctive feature of our MegaReload, in contrast to the new realization Mega is the use of passwords. We don't store keys in the cloud, as Kim wants. We provide users the opportunity to use their passwords (complex or simple anyway), and so these passwords are used to generate the appropriate keys (via PBKDF2).

The whole procedure of encryption and decryption happening at the moment in the java applets on the user side, and streaming. The file server operates the same encrypted result. Thus, without knowing the password, it is impossible to know what exactly is stored in the loaded files.

The service is new and still need to finish some incomplete — such as a list of uploaded files in personal account, API, affiliate program (and maybe something else that will tell dear habracha)... but it is already running.

Welcome to MegaReload.se

If there is interest on the part of abrasheva, we will describe in more detail the technical features of the service.

p.s. From Russia with love, Kim ;)
