New home Vivaldi.net

/ > The reason for today's article was pretty sad news that the official portal My Opera closed. But it is always hard to say goodbye to what used to. And I'm talking not about the portal itself — I mean our community, which was created over the years. Millions of users who discussed on the forum the news, sharing interesting photographs, published articles, and just shared thoughts with friends. It was our virtual home where we spent the worst hours of our lives. And it all suddenly sink into Oblivion, disappear from the network and will remain only a memory... No, it should not be. You can always find a way to preserve what you hold dear. And I'm happy to report that such an opportunity we all have today.

As you can see on the picture, I'm talking about the new portal Vivaldi.net. You are interested in, who decided to build a new home for the community of users of MyOpera. I can say that it is well known to many of you, the person, who initiated the birth and MyOpera portal — Jon von Techner. Let's not wonder what prompted him to make such a move — just read his letter addressed to all users of MyOpera.

Like many of you, I was very saddened by the news of the imminent closure of My Opera. The user community was a powerful and vital part of Opera, which became the key to the success of the Opera browser, and My Opera. I spent a lot of time reading your comments in forums and blogs, and I still continue to do so. The support that you have given us Opera, was irreplaceable. Without you there would be no Opera.

I, as one of the founders of Opera, it's hard to see the destruction of the community that we together have created. So some of those, who for many years has created for you browser and the portal, decided to come together and build a new home for our old friends.

As you can see, much work remains to be done. The news of the closure of My Opera was unexpected and we tried to quickly prepare the new portal. We wanted to open it as soon as possible to let you know that there is a place where we can get together.

I hope that the new portal you will like it and help us to make it as easy as possible for you, because you are our community.

Your friend,

Jon

So I invite you all to our shared new home portal Vivaldi.net, which will, I hope, a good replacement for Stickam.

Probably, the picture on the splash screen causes some issues, so I will explain. The picture Northern lights over Iceland, and this is no accident: Jon hails from Iceland and it was here, in the country of geysers, glaciers and volcanoes, we have placed their servers. But don't worry — it's completely safe in all respects, both in terms of securing servers, and all data that you will store.

Briefly what we have prepared for you on the new portal. Here you will be able to blog, store your photo albums, chat using the built in chat or mail service, make new friends and, of course, to communicate with their old friends. We have also prepared a instructions as you migrate some of your data from My Opera to the new portal. That's all and see you at Vivaldi.net!
