25-27 March held a round of the team competition in information security "volgactf" 2016. Today we publish the results.

This year the championship was held under the banner of the struggle for free software: the participants were asked to find information about artificial intelligence the GAI developed by scientists-enthusiasts. Greedy Corporation who created the commercial alternative to the BAI tried to hide all traces of free competition, there it was! The traces could be found by solving the tasks, which this year laid out in random order and not in ascending number of points as before.

For communication with the organizers and inter-teams chat bot was instituted in the Telegram, which many of the participants, by the way, took over her personal guardian angel, pulling his "answer" and "flag". Some apparently tried to persuade the bot, sending such messages again and again.

A little dry statistics: in the previous article (habrahabr.ru/post/280043) we have shown that the number of participants is growing every year. This year has justified expectations – the total number of teams increased to 749, of which 668 confirmed their participation. 452 team member tried to solve the task, sending responses to the server. 199 of them finished the competition with a non-zero result.

The maximum number of points for the assignment is 6260. The average (or the median) of the teams scored more than 600 points. Above that figure rose to 102 teams. In General, points are distributed between 10 (minimum number of points credited for assignment Qiuz) to 4860 (with so many leaders finished the correspondence stage). The second diagram shows that quite a large number of teams (49 – a quarter of the "successful" teams) decided one or two serious job and leave it at that.

Curious to see the geographical distribution of the participants (information was taken from registration data and profile of teams on the website ctftime.org). The number of participants predictable the first place is Russia (165 teams). 108 teams identified themselves as "international". Many also teams from USA, Japan, and South Korea.
There are unexpected countries, such as Mongolia (5 teams) North Korea (2 teams). Micronesian team, however, in a detailed examination turned out to be Iran. (A little offtopic: when writing this passage the author had the presence of mind to consider and analyze the geography of the participants of the global CTF competitions. Very unusual to see a dozen teams, it would seem, no different special achievements in the IT sector of Vietnam. If someone of the readers have their own thoughts on the subject, share them in the comments)

3) Bushwhackers (Russia), 4610 points.
Fresh names we can mention Destructive Voice (10th place) and the team HETTO (6th place), before participating in a few competitions. The twelfth command in the list of finalists, int3pids from Spain, scored 3400 points.

The internal round, according to preliminary information, will involve 5 teams of the Volga (Samara, Saratov, Penza), 4 teams from the other regions (Novosibirsk, Moscow, Tomsk and Yekaterinburg) and 3 foreign teams (U.S. and Ukraine).
It was fascinating to watch the progress of events, thanks to all participants! Detailed solutions to assignments may be published on Habre or the official website, while the curious can look at the solution from teams at the link ctftime.org/event/279/tasks. See you in the finals!
